Located just 3km east of Hue City, Lại Thế Village Hall stands as a remarkable testament to Vietnam’s cultural heritage. Constructed in 1741 during Emperor Le Hien Tong’s reign, this historical treasure in Phú Thượng commune has been recognized as a national relic for its exceptional architectural value and historical significance.
Overview of Lai The Village Hall
This architectural marvel features the distinctive Nguyen dynasty “double roofing” style with three compartments, two double wings, and 54 pillars arranged in a precise 8×7 grid formation. The hall houses precious artifacts including gilded horizontal boards, ornate couplets, and six imperial recognitions bestowed by emperors. Despite multiple renovations (1780, 1845, 1891, 1998), its historical essence remains preserved.
Biannual ceremonies held during spring and autumn pay homage to village founders, maintaining an unbroken cultural thread connecting present-day residents with their ancestral heritage. This living tradition, alongside the hall’s exquisite decorative elements highly valued for their artistic merit, earned Lại Thế Village Hall national relic status on January 19th, 2001 (Decision No. 04/2001 QD-BVHTT).
