In Hue province, on the way to Tu Duc Tomb, there is hill called Vong Canh, which at first seems to be quite normal among other famous sightseeing spots of Hue. However, tourists should not miss this place because it has been regarded as the best spot to catch a panoramic view of the famous Perfumer river of this city. This can be seen from its name : “ Vong “ means watch and “Canh” means scene. The hill is the place that river and mountain gather to create an interesting and romantic space. In the old days and up to nowadays many pairs of lovers often come here to obtain a quiet, private and romantic space to talk each other. Furthermore, many of groups of young people in Hue City often make outdoor picnic at this Hill on holidays. They bring along tent, food and drink, they build camp then organize interesting games. Because this Hill has vast space and is shadowy by pine trees that suitable and ideal for going camping as well as making picnic on holidays or weekend.
Vong Canh is far about only 7 kilometers from Hue City center. The hill is located near Perfume River so it is harmony and wonderful combination of river and hill. This hill is a very peaceful and poetic among ancient features of Nguyen King’s Royal Tombs. At the top of this hill, you can enjoy the poetic panoramic scenery of Hue city. You can reach this Hill by bikes, motorbikes or by car.
Vong Canh hill has 43 meters height, on the foot of hill, it is bordering the bank of Perfumer River and is opposite to Hon Chen temple. Both sides of the way to the hill have a plenty of pines. Standing on the Vong Canh hill, tourists will have overall sightseeing with ancient relics and beautiful scenery of natural space around here, especially, the beauty of Huong River. Moreover, viewers are often seduced by the villages stretching along the river banks: Huong Ho, Hai Cat, Ngoc Ho, etc, with fruit gardens under the shades of pine trees, corn field, small boats quiet skimming and then drawing several lines on the tranquil water surface. Vong Canh Hill overlooks the marvelous and elaborate modifications of the water colors upon various nuances of sunlight and sky. Vong Canh itself is now covered with pine trees and daisy. From sunrise to sunset, the soft-silk-strip Perfume River charms bystanders by the atmosphere that it brings to the life surrounding.
Vong Canh hill is lined with daises and pine trees. In the years past, there was a watch tower atop the hill. Remnants of its structure are seen in the hill today. Aside from the hill, visitors can head to Van Nien Water Plant, which is the oldest in the region and was constructed by a French architect following to oriental style. The Water plant is only 300 m from Vong Canh hill and is a noteworthy destination.

Many years ago, lords and kings often enjoyed the pristine scenery of mountain and river. That is reason why nowadays this surrounding area is filled up with royal tombs of not only King Tu Duc but also Dong Khanh’s, Thieu Tri’s and several Queens’. Being combined with that complex of royal monuments is Hon Chen Temple – a place that local people worship Lieu Hanh Goddess- on the opposite site, Vong Canh is an ideal place to picture an ancient but magnificent Hue.
From the Vong Canh Hill, tourists can see fruit garden of label, orange which is covered by pine and ancient roofs of Temples. Once you visit this Hill, you not only reach and watch wonderful Hill but also see King‘s Royal Tombs and famous Temples nearby.
